R U Still Down? (Remember Me) is the second posthumous album by 2Pac, released in 1997. Although it is the second album release after his death, it is the first to be finished without the creative input of 2Pac. Having left a large body of work behind, this was the first release from his mother's new imprint Amaru Entertainment, set up to control his posthumous releases.
It spawned two hit singles, "Do for Love" and "I Wonder If Heaven Got a Ghetto", the former of which ("Do for Love") has been certified Gold by the RIAA. The album eventually reached multi-platinum status, a trend that some of his subsequent posthumous albums would follow. The album opened up with 549,000 copies on the first week

"I'll Be There for You/You're All I Need to Get By" is a Grammy Award-winning duet performed by rapper Method Man and R&B singer Mary J. Blige.
The song is a remix of Method Man's "All I Need" (which appears on his 1994 debut album Tical), with an interpolation of Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell's 1968 hit, "You're All I Need to Get By", with Mary J. Blige singing the choruses, and backing vocals. Another version of the song was released, entitled "Puff Daddy Mix," which was produced by Sean Combs. The song contains a new instrumental which includes a repeated sample ("Lie together, cry together/I swear to God I hope we fuckin' die together") from The Notorious B.I.G.'s "Me & My Bitch". Another remix version, titled "Razor Sharp Mix" was produced by RZA. The song received a platinum certification for single sales of over 1,200,000 in the U.S. making it the only female/rap collaboration to achieve sales of over 1 million (physical) sales in the 90s.
The song peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in June, 1995, and #1 on the R&B singles chart in the May 20, 1995 issue of Billboard Magazine - a position it held for three weeks. The song also ended up winning the duo the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group in 1996.

"Tonight's da Night" is the third single released by Redman from his debut album, Whut? Thee Album. It features a jazzy beat produced by Erick Sermon and Redman himself, and contains samples from many songs, including "All Night Long" by Mary Jane Girls, "The Payback" by James Brown, "Tonight's the Night" by Raydio, and "A Few More Kisses to Go" by Isaac Hayes. The song starts off with Redman rapping about being "smooth to any groove", and he is then interrupted by Hurricane G who wants him to rap some "rough shit". The Format is the sixth studio album by rapper AZ, released on November 7, 2006. The album features production from Fizzy Womack (better known as Lil' Fame of M.O.P.), Face Defeat, Emile, J. "Get Money" was the third and final single released from the Junior M.A.F.I.A.'s debut album, Conspiracy. The original version, which sampled Sylvia Striplin's "You Can't Turn Me Away", was produced by EZ Elpee with verses done by The Notorious B.I.G. and Lil' Kim. The official remix entitled "Gettin' Money (The Get Money Remix)" was produced by DJ Enuff, Lance 'Un' Rivera and The Notorious B.I.G. This version used a different instrumental, sampling Dennis Edwards' 1984 track, "Don't Look Any Further" featuring new verses by Lil' Kim and B.I.G. as well as a verse from Lil' Cease. "Insane in the Brain" is a hit single by the American hip hop group Cypress Hill. It was released in 1993 and in addition to hitting number 1 on the US rap chart, the song also was a surprise crossover hit, reaching number 19 in the Hot 100 chart in 1994. It was highly successful in other countries. The song was released on the group's Black Sunday album.

The popular lyric "Insane in the membrane" is sometimes confused for the title.
According to B-Real, the song was actually a diss song aimed at Chubb Rock. The group felt Chubb had ridiculed their style on his 1992 album I Gotta Get Mine Yo.

The song is built around many samples: a repeating sample of a horse from Mel and Tim's "Good Guys Only Win in the Movies;" a drum break from organist George Semper's cover version of Lee Dorsey's "Get Out of My Life, Woman;" a sample of James Brown grunting from the opening of his song "Say It Loud - I'm Black and I'm Proud;" a sample of the line "insane in the brain" from Cypress Hill's own song "Hole in the Head;" the opening keyboard from Sly & the Family Stone's "Life" and a sample of the line "I think I'm going crazy" from The Youngbloods's "All Over the World (La La)," which concludes the track. In 2008, it was ranked number 34 on VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of Hip Hop.

A video for the track was filmed at San Francisco's DNA Lounge.

"Sound of da Police" is the second and final single from rapper KRS-One's first solo album, Return of the Boom Bap. The song begins with KRS-One whooping twice to evoke a police siren (the "sound of the police"); this recurs several times throughout the song. This song was used in the trailer for Cop Out. "Sound of da Police" was released as a CD single featuring a b-side, "Hip-Hop vs. Rap". The song is produced by Showbiz from DITC.
The lyrics refer to police, in places like Bronx, New York. The lyrics are a protest against institutionalized racism, oppression and violence against the black community. This is all purveyed with lines like "Are you really for peace and equality?", comparing police officers to plantation overseers, from the slave trade. This song is very similar to a song released by N.W.A called Fuck tha Police, released 5 years earlier.

Wallace began rapping when he was a teenager. He would entertain people on the streets as well as perform with local groups, the Old Gold Brothers and the Techniques. After being released from prison, Wallace made a demo tape under the name Biggie Smalls, a reference to his childhood nickname and to his stature; he stood at 6' 3" (1.91 m) and weighed as much as 300 to 380 pounds according to differing accounts. The idea for The Layover EP originally came about while he was on tour with Little Brother. It was originally going to be a 5 track release produced entirely by North Carolina producer Khrysis for free download. He later decided to up the ante and make it an official release. Evidence cites Ice Cube's Kill at Will, Pete Rock & CL Smooth's All Souled Out and Bone Thugs-n-Harmony's Creepin on ah Come Up as influences for the project, mini LP's that served an eager fan base with enduring, concentrated, filler-free product.
DJ Premier ranked the album 2nd in his top 20 albums of 2008 list.
In the video for "The Far Left" when The Alchemist says "To the atmosphere so I can really find out" he holds up a drawing of a slug and an ant. This is a reference to the hip hop group Atmosphere, which consist of rapper Slug and producer Ant.

The album's 187,400 debut week sales made it jump to #2 on the Billboard album charts, only second to Ricky Martin's 1999 self-titled album with huge first week sales of over 661,000 copies. Though it was Snoop Dogg's first album to not debut at #1 and have strong album sales for the first week (probably due to the very anticipated Ricky Martin sales rush), it eventually sold 1,503,865 copies in 1999. It did top the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums though.

Return of the Mac is the second studio album by rapper Prodigy, released on March 27, 2007 through E1 Music. The album was intended to be a mixtape serving as a prequel to Prodigy's next album, H.N.I.C. Pt. 2, but was released as a traditional album due to the unexpected level of quality of the record. The album was produced by The Alchemist (who is featured on the cover) and it features songs sampled from the Blaxploitation era.
Return of the Mac debuted at number thirty-two on the Billboard 200, selling 27,000 copies in its first week. As of December 2007, the album has sold 130,000 copies. The album received notable critical acclaim, and is considered somewhat of a return to form for Prodigy, as many considered him to have "fallen off" after the 2001 Mobb Deep release Infamy. Return of the Mac has been very successful, as Prodigy's upcoming LP, H.N.I.C. Pt. 2, became one of the more anticipated hip hop albums of 2008.
Return of the Mac has three singles with music videos directed by DanTheMan; "Mac 10 Handle", "New York Shit", and "Stuck on You".

Hard to Earn is the fourth album from the hip hop duo Gang Starr. It was released in March of 1994 and featured the singles "Mass Appeal", "DWYCK" and "Code of the Streets." Musically the album is constructed around a harder, more stripped-down sound that is distinctively less melodic than the duo's previous work.
Guest appearances on the album come from Group Home, Jeru The Damaja, and Big Shug. At the time, all were part of the Gang Starr Foundation, which made the album a stepping-stone for future DJ Premier-helmed projects by Group Home and Jeru. The single "DWYCK" also featured hip hop duo Nice & Smooth.

"Feelin' It" is the fourth and final single from rapper Jay-Z's debut album Reasonable Doubt. The song features a chorus sung by Mecca and a beat produced by Ski. The song's beat contains a sample from "Pastures" by jazz musician Ahmad Jamal. The track was originally meant to be a Camp Lo song, but producer Ski gave it to Jay at the last minute. He describes the situation in an XXL Magazine article:

"It was me and Geechi Suede from Camp Lo, it was my hook and everything. Jay heard it and was like, "I want that record. I don’t care what you do, I want that record." I didn’t want to give it to him, but I had to because I knew he was going to be the man at the time. So I said, "Fuck it, take the record." It really was me and Suede from Camp Lo, the flow and everything, the way he was flowing on it. That’s the way we was flowing on it. So he just took the whole thing. 2000 is the second album by hip hop artist Grand Puba of the group Brand Nubian, released in mid-1995 through Elektra Records. The album wasn't as acclaimed as his solo debut Reel to Reel, and wasn't able to sell a significant number of units, despite a Billboard Hot 100 hit, "I Like It (I Wanna Be Where You Are)". Puba reunited with Brand Nubian following 2000, for the release of the album Foundation. He didn't return with another solo album until 2001's Understand This.

The original version of the song first appeared as the seventh track on When Disaster Strikes, but it was the remix that was released as a single. The song was originally exclusive to the single, but it replaced "Survival Hungry" as the third track on the second pressing of When Disaster Strikes.

Wild Cowboys is the solo debut by Brand Nubian member Sadat X, released in mid-1996 on Loud Records. Though the album did not receive much mainstream attention, it was a popular underground release, partly due to the album's guest producers, which included D.I.T.C. members Buckwild, Diamond D and Showbiz, as well as underground legends Pete Rock, Da Beatminerz and O.Gee / DJ Ogee. Wild Cowboys features the singles "Hang 'Em High", "Stages & Lights" and "The Lump Lump". A sequel to the album was released on March 23, 2010.

DJ Honda released H2 in Japan and was set to leave on a two week promotional tour. "Blaze It Up", one of Black's features on H2, was set to be the second single released off the album. So Black accompanied Honda to Japan to promote H2 and his single Blaze It Up
.Upon returning from Japan they decided to shoot the video for the single. With Blaze It Up already making noise in Japan, the US version was ready to go. The first single was "On the mic" which featured Cuban Linx, JuJu, AL, Al Tariq, Problemz, and Black. The video was a success getting play daily on rap city. Black, Tariq and Problemz then took off on the H2 tour hitting LA, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle , Canada and New York. Honda then left Sony which led Black, Tariq and Problemz to form the group Missin' Linx. Again the buzz was out, the group was hot, but to no avail. Black found himself in the same spot he was in when he first started, nice as ever but with no deal.

Christopher Lee Rios (November 10, 1971 – February 7, 2000), better known by his stage name Big Pun (short for Big Punisher), was a Puerto Rican rapper who emerged from the underground rap scene in The Bronx in the late 1990s. He first appeared on albums from The Beatnuts, on the track "Off the Books" in 1997, and on Fat Joe's second album Jealous One's Envy in 1995, on the track "Watch Out", prior to signing to Loud Records as a solo artist. Pun's lyrics are notable for technical efficiency, having minimal pauses to take a breath, and heavy use of internal and multi-syllabic rhyming schemes. Big Pun died of a heart attack at age 28.

House of Pain (Irish: Teach na Péine) is an American hip hop group who released three albums in the 1990s before lead rapper Everlast left to pursue his solo career again. The group's name is a reference to the H.G. Wells novel The Island of Dr. Moreau, a reference carried further by the naming of their 2011 tour "He Who Breaks the Law." The group is best known for its 1992 hit single "Jump Around", which reached #3 in the United States, #6 in Ireland and #8 in the United Kingdom. The group broke up in 2003 and reformed in 2005.

We Right Here is the first single by rapper DMX from his album, "The Great Depression".
The song shows the use of Pro Tools ability to create voice masking and voice doubling, with the fact that DMX does his vocals on the microphone, and then does them over the top of his previous audio track, to create a hazed, mellow sound, much like that of someone rapping with a 40 a Day voice.
The music video was shot in his birth city of Baltimore, Maryland (unlike previous videos shot in New York City), and contains cameo appearances from The LOX.

It was at this time that DJ Honda decided to leave Sony Music Japan behind to embark on opening his own, independent record label, "DJ Honda RECORDINGS" simultaneously in New York City and Tokyo with Seoul, South Korea branch office opening in 2002. DJ Honda released two albums on Christmas Day, 1999: h 2000, a compilation album featuring all production by DJ Honda coupled with New York's prominent emcees and Turntablist Revolution: I.T.F. He enlists yet another group of New York's finest lyricists: M.O.P., Teflon, The Beatnuts, Gravediggaz, Jeru The Damaja, Parish "PMD" Smith of EPMD, Triple Seis, 8 Off Agallah, Black Attack along with Rob Jackson, DJ Alladin, and more. For the first time ever, DJ Honda collaborates solo with one emcee on an album titled, "Underground Connection" with Parish "PMD" Smith of the duo group, EPMD and is released in Japan and S.Korea with bonus tracks from Korean hip hop artists, Erick Sermon and a few other emcees.
