Return of the Mac is the second studio album by rapper Prodigy, released on March 27, 2007 through E1 Music. The album was intended to be a mixtape serving as a prequel to Prodigy's next album, H.N.I.C. Pt. 2, but was released as a traditional album due to the unexpected level of quality of the record. The album was produced by The Alchemist (who is featured on the cover) and it features songs sampled from the Blaxploitation era. Return of the Mac debuted at number thirty-two on the Billboard 200, selling 27,000 copies in its first week. As of December 2007, the album has sold 130,000 copies. The album received notable critical acclaim, and is considered somewhat of a return to form for Prodigy, as many considered him to have "fallen off" after the 2001 Mobb Deep release Infamy. Return of the Mac has been very successful, as Prodigy's upcoming LP, H.N.I.C. Pt. 2, became one of the more anticipated hip hop albums of 2008. Return of the Mac has three singles with music videos directed by DanTheMan; "Mac 10 Handle", "New York Shit", and "Stuck on You".

"Classic (Better Than I've Ever Been)" is Grammy nominated collaboration song between Kanye West, Nas, Rakim and KRS-One that is produced by Rick Rubin. The song was released as a single on February 20, 2007 by Nike Records. It was performed live at the Nike Air Force Ones 25th anniversary party shown on MTV2. Its remix, "Better Than I've Ever Been DJ Premier Remix", is produced by DJ Premier, and it features Rakim along with the aforementioned rappers. It features DJ Premier's signature scratches from prior songs such as Nas' "One Love" and "It Ain't Hard to Tell". The song was nominated for Best Rap Collaboration at the 50th Grammy Awards in 2008. Common was featured on the remix, scratched on the DJ Premier version.

Joell Ortiz is an American rapper of Puerto Rican descent. Joell Ortiz was born to a Afro-American father and Puerto Rican mother. Ortiz grew up in the Cooper Park Houses in the East Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, New York formerly signed to Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment record label. He was featured in the Unsigned Hype column of the March 2004 issue of The Source Magazine and was also selected as Chairman's Choice in XXL Magazine. During the same time Joell also went on to win the 2004 EA Sports Battle which earned his song Mean Business a spot on the NBA Live 2005 soundtrack. The same year he was offered a contract to Jermaine Dupri's So So Def label. The deal quickly went sour which caused Joell to start beef with Jermaine. Joell has since collaborated with KRS-One and Kool G. Rap. Joell released his street album called "The Brick: Bodega Chronicles" April 24, 2007 on Koch Records. The album was recorded while Joell was trying to get signed and going through some tough times personally. Even though he was signed to Aftermath Entertainment, Dr. Dre allowed him to release the street album on Koch Records. The Brick features productions from Showbiz, The Alchemist, Domingo, Ho Chi from Killahertz Productions, Lil’ Fame of M.O.P., Novel, and Moss, among others. The Game was born Jayceon Terrell Taylor in Los Angeles, California to Lynette Baker of African-American descent and George Taylor, Jr. of African- American and Mexican descent. He grew up in Compton, California in a primarily Crip gang neighborhood known as Santana Blocc, although he grew up to become a member of the Bloods. In 2004 Dr Dre was passed Game's demo CD by D-Mack and been suitably impressed. According to Aftermath A&R Angelo Sanders in an interview with HitQuarters, when Dre then met him, "[He] saw the swagger in him and thought he could do something with him." Game was signed to Aftermath Entertainment only a week later through a joint deal with 50 Cent's G-Unit Records. It was confirmed in May 2009 that Game began working on a new album, The R.E.D. Album, with Timbaland and Drumma Boy on the album. He released the first single from the album, the Pharrell produced "It Must Be Me" on April 14, 2010.
