The Future Is Now is the debut album from New York hip hop group Non Phixion, released in March 2002 on Uncle Howie Records. The album garnered acclaim among critics and fans, and is considered to be an underground classic. A double disc Platinum Edition of the album was released in 2004, with the second disc featuring instrumental versions of the fourteen full-length tracks found on disc one. The Future Is Now features an all-star production lineup, including legends such as DJ Premier, Pete Rock and Large Professor, as well as group affiliate Necro, JuJu of The Beatnuts, Dave One and T-Ray. The album features guest appearances from Necro, MF DOOM, The Beatnuts, Al Tariq, Marley Metal, Stephen Carpenter of Deftones, and Christian Olde Wolbers and Raymond Herrera of Fear Factory. The album's cover art was created by Mear One. The album was a minor underground hit, breaking into the top fifteen on Billboard's Independent Albums and Heatseekers charts, and peaking at #65 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The album includes the singles "Black Helicopters", "Drug Music" b/w "If You Got Love" and "Rock Stars" b/w "The C.I.A. is Trying to Kill Me". "Black Helicopters" was the only charting single from the album, peaking at #46 on the Hot Rap Singles chart.

Erick Sermon, also known as Erick Onassis or EMD (Erick Making Dollars), (born November 25, 1968) is an American rapper, musician, and producer. Sermon is best known as half of late-1980s/1990s hip hop group EPMD and for production work. "The Green Eyed Bandit" has also made multiple solo recordings and albums. He began recording solo albums for Def Jam in 1993; in 1997, he rejoined EPMD. The following year, Sermon, Murray and Redman recorded a cover version of "Rapper's Delight" by The Sugarhill Gang, the first hit hip hop record. EPMD disbanded a second time in 1999. In 2000, Sermon moved over to J Records, and released the album Music the following year. The title track (a Top 40 pop hit that also made it to #2 on the R&B music charts), featured guest vocals from late soul music legend Marvin Gaye, culled from unreleased recordings which Sermon reportedly found in a small record shop in London. Erick continued working on an album. React was released in 2002. The title track became a major hit song, though the album still had disappointing sales. In 2003, J Records dropped Erick Sermon due to poor record sales. However, he still went on to establish his Def Squad imprint with Motown Records. At this time, he recorded an album, Chilltown, N.Y., which was released a year later in 2004. The album was powered by the single "Feel It" (which contained a sample of reggae/R&B singer Sean Paul), a song which became a success in the United States. In early 2008, Erick Sermon and EPMD started their own record label called EP Records, distributed by RBS/Universal Music Group. The seventh EPMD album, We Mean Business, came out in December 2008.

Brad Jordan, better known by his stage name Scarface (born November 9, 1970), is an American rapper from Houston, Texas and a member of the Geto Boys. He is originally from the South Park community. Scarface began his career as Akshen (pronounced Action) recording solo for Lil' Troy's Short Stop Records, a local label in Houston. He would go on to sign with Rap-A-Lot Records and join a group who were collectively known as Geto Boys replacing one member who left, and released the group's second album Grip It! On That Other Level (1989), a highly successful LP that garnered the group a large fanbase, in spite of their violent lyrics keeping them from radio and MTV. He took his stage name from the 1983 film Scarface. The album Mr. Scarface Is Back was a success, and Scarface's popularity soon overshadowed the other Geto Boys. Scarface remained in the group while releasing a series of solo albums that kept him in the public view with increasing sales. This peaked with The Diary and The Last of a Dying Breed, which received overwhelmingly positive reviews and sales, and earned him Lyricist of the Year at the 2001 Source Awards.
